Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling in Boise is a relatively new technology in minimally invasive skin tightening for the face, neck and body offered at Idaho Eyelid and Facial Plastic Surgery. RF microneedling stimulates your body’s ability to produce collagen. Microneedling, which is the use of tiny needles on the skin, is a proven therapy that rejuvenates the skin. Compounding its effects with radiofrequency technology improves skin elasticity and significantly reduces wrinkles, scars, and even stretch marks.

What Is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

RF microneedling uses 36 gold coated needles driven by a robotic step motor. This ensures the radio frequency energy, heat and LED light are evenly distributed across the needles to deliver you a precise treatment for your skin concerns. The treatment consists of four customized settings of energy, heat, depth, and LED light. We use a trifecta approach to deliver three passes to treat multiple layers of the skin. This customized approach helps achieve superior results for each patient. This technology is designed to:

  • stimulate collagen and elastin
  • alleviate wrinkles and fine lines
  • tighten the skin
  • improve the skin’s tone and texture
  • minimize pore size

Am I a Good Candidate for Radiofrequency Microneedling?

The best candidates for radiofrequency microneedling are people who want to correct early signs of aging without undergoing cosmetic surgeries. When considering this procedure, make sure to have realistic expectations. The results of RF microneedling will vary from patient to patient.

Individuals who have active skin conditions like cold sores, infections, and psoriasis should treat these existing conditions before undergoing radiofrequency microneedling treatment.

This treatment is not recommended for people who have a history of keloids, hypertrophic scarring, or any medical condition that causes healing-related complications.

Your Consultation

Your consultation for radiofrequency microneedling involves a skin examination. Your skin type and tone will be determined, and your aesthetic concerns will be evaluated. Photographs may be taken for before-and-after comparison.

A review of your medical history will be undertaken to assess potential risk factors. You will be asked about your current medications, along with any underlying conditions or recent surgeries/treatments.

Your cosmetic goals and expectations will be discussed in order to develop the best treatment plan for you. Preparation instructions will be given, and a date will be set for the treatment session.

How to Prepare for RF Microneedling

Before your RF microneedling session, be sure to use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 (Epionce/Obagi products are available through our office). Protect your skin from being sunburnt before this treatment.

Refrain from plucking, waxing, or bleaching the targeted areas at least one to two weeks before your session. This will prevent irritation and burns during treatment.

Take a break from skincare products that cause skin peeling like retinoids, salicylic acid, and others at least three days before your appointment.

Avoid permanent makeup or injectable treatments on or near the areas selected for treatment. If you have recently undergone these treatments, consult with our experts to find out when it is best to come in for radiofrequency microneedling.

Your Radiofrequency Microneedling Session

An RF microneedling session will begin with cleansing the skin to prevent infection. Since microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure, only topical anesthesia is needed for a comfortable session. In some cases, local anesthesia may also be administered.

Once the skin is numb, the microneedling device will create very tiny wounds in the skin. The needles are equipped with radiofrequency to stimulate collagen and elastin production. The microneedling process will take less than an hour, depending on the area of treatment.

Finally, a soothing solution will be applied on your skin to support cell regeneration.

Radiofrequency Microneedling Aftercare

No recovery time or downtime is needed after your radiofrequency microneedling treatment. You may be able to resume your normal activities right after your procedure, though social downtime may be preferred.

Swelling, redness, and discomfort may be alleviated by applying ice packs to the treated areas. Avoid makeup for 24 hours after treatment, and make sure to only use a gentle cleanser. Apply sunscreen regularly to prevent damage to your skin, since it will be sensitive for a time.
