A neck lift can improve the appearance of your jawline/neck in a number of ways:
- It can tighten the drooping skin of the neck for a younger look
- It can contour away excess neck fat for an overall slimmer appearance, eliminating a double chin

Techniques Used During Necklifts
A neck lift involves a number of surgical techniques, any of which may be used depending on the requirements of each case.
- Cervicoplasty: Removal and tightening of excess sagging neck skin. This involves the use of a scalpel to trim away the tissue
- Platysmaplasty: Removal and tightening of sagging platysmal muscle tissue. The platysmal muscles are large sheets of muscle stretching from the chin down to the chest. When they sag, it can lead to prominent neck bands and a turkey-wattle appearance. Internal sutures are used to tighten the platysmal muscles, restoring a youthful look
- Liposuction: Removal of stubborn excess fatty tissue from the neck. This process involves use of a tool called a cannula, which is a thin tube used to loosen fatty tissue and remove it from the body via medical suction

The Necklift Procedure
Neck lift surgery can take anywhere from two to four hours depending on the amount of tissue removed and the techniques involved. It begins with administration of local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia.
After this has taken effect, small incisions are made behind the ears and/or beneath the chin. The chosen surgical techniques are employed, and then the incisions are closed with stitches.
The Recovery Process
Following Dr. Boerner’s post-surgical care instructions is the best way to ensure a quick recovery after your neck lift and to minimize the chance of complications.
Once you return home after the procedure, you will need time to heal. The healing process involves taking time off from work, avoiding strenuous physical activities for several weeks, and taking prescribed pain-control medication as necessary.
There will be a degree of bruising and swelling in your neck for a time. These issues will fade with the help of cold compresses.
