Botox/Dysport

At Idaho Eyelid and Facial Plastic Surgery, our physicians are the medical directors. This means our patients can have the confidence of having sound medical judgement right here at the office. Our patients can smooth away wrinkles and fine lines that come with age, sun, and repeated facial expressions. Conveniently located in downtown Boise, we offer both Botox and Dysport. These simple injectables are able to restore our patients to a more youthful look without requiring any surgery or downtime, making them incredibly convenient.

Which Wrinkles Can Botox/Dysport Treat?

Botox was first used to treat strabismus back in the 1980s. It was found that Botox could be used to block facial muscles to control wrinkling in many parts of the face and therefore became an effective anti-aging treatment. Botox and Dysport are now used to treat crow’s feet around the eyes, glabellar lines between the brows (typically called the “11”), horizontal forehead lines, chin wrinkles (peau d’orange chin), bunny lines on the nose, lipstick lines around the lips, and marionette lines around the mouth. It is an effective way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

There are also medically-based Botox/Dysport treatments, such as addressing blepharospasms, harsh platysmal neck bands, and helping to contour an overly square jaw. They are also often used to address excess sweating in areas like the armpits (hyperhidrosis) and migraine headaches.

Botox and Dysport are less effective in treating moderate or harsh midface wrinkles or volume loss. Patients often find injectable dermal fillers to be the best solution to these aging issues. Idaho Eyelid and Facial Plastic Surgery We offer a number of fillers, including Juvederm, Restylane, and fat transfer using your own tissue.

How Do They Work?

Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators, meaning they affect nerve signals. Many wrinkles are the result of overworked facial muscles, which perform the same actions over and over again. Over time, these muscles crease the overlying skin, forming wrinkles.

When Botox or Dysport is injected, the nerve signals to the muscles are blocked. This allows the overworked muscles to relax back into an at-rest position, letting the skin become smooth again.

Your Consultation

During your consultation at Idaho Eyelid and Facial Plastic Surgery, your physician will talk to you about your aesthetic goals, specifically addressing the wrinkles that you would like to treat. These lines will be examined, along with your overall facial structure. The Practice will also review your complete medical history, including allergies, past procedures, and current medications.

If Botox/Dysport is right for you, the procedure will be explained in detail, and you will be able to ask clarifying questions. Any aftercare steps will also be discussed.

The Injection Process

A Botox/ or Dysport injection session usually takes approximately 20 minutes to perform, depending on which areas you want treated and whether you decide to add on areas for treatment during the session. The targeted areas will be marked as a guide for the injector.

In some cases, a topical or local anesthetic may be administered to numb the region, ensuring a more comfortable treatment session. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, the units of Botox/Dysport will be delivered via precise injections.

After Your Treatment

After Botox or Dysport has been administered, patients can go back to regular activities immediately without recovery time or downtime. Many patients get their injections during their lunch break and then return to work.

Minor redness, swelling, or bruising may be present at the injection site for a short time. Avoid heavy sun exposure to ensure that these issues clear up quickly.

The results of the procedure are effective for around three to four months. After this, maintenance treatments will be needed to preserve the results. Additional treatments can provide improved benefits over time.

How Much Do Botox and Dysport Cost?

The cost of Botox and Dysport is competitive with other locations in the Treasure Valley. Typically, the main determining factor of Botox/Dysport’s price is the number of units needed. Additionally, the number of areas being treated can affect the overall cost. The cost is variable based on specials, but is comparable in price especially considering our medical directors are on site and available to both patients and injectors.

Featured Testimonials

“My dermatologist in Boise recommended Dr. Boerner at Idaho Eyelid and Facial Plastic Surgery years ago. At first, I went to Dr. Boerner for migraine control through Botox. As time passed we started using Botox for wrinkle prevention and fillers to replace lost volume. Frankly, I would not go to anyone else in Boise for cosmetic procedures.

“Dr. Boerner consistently applies a subtle approach and is not one to overdo things. I am quite picky about my appearance, and never want to look I’ve been to a plastic surgeon! I have sent lots of people to him. I am so happy with my results and give Idaho Eyelid and Facial Plastic Surgery five stars, both Dr. Boerner and the office staff. As a side note, I have had some issues with the office postponing appointments, a problem as I suffer from cluster migraines.”
